J.D. Martinez spotted on crutches after suffering foot sprain

Reinhold Matay / USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez was removed from Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins after suffering a sprain to his right foot, the team announced.

Though early X-rays on his foot returned negative, the Tigers said the 29-year-old will be re-evaluated Sunday.

Jason Beck of MLB.com notes Martinez was seen hobbling to the Tigers' dugout following a shoestring catch to end the first inning and was tended to by a trainer.

According to 97.1 The Ticket's Dan Hasty, Martinez later returned to the team's dugout in crutches, though he said he was feeling better.

Martinez, who was penciled in to hit third for Detroit in the contest, was pinch-hit for by Alex Presley in the bottom of the frame.
