Look: 'Jeopardy!' clue about Bautista's bat flip has glaring mistake
I'll take "Proper Research" for $1,000, Alex.
On Wednesday's episode of "Jeopardy!", one of the most memorable playoff moments in recent baseball history - Jose Bautista's iconic ALDS-clinching bat flip - was turned into a clue in a category about bird-named sports teams. It was a moment most certainly worthy of quiz-show status. Unfortunately for Bautista, his "Jeopardy!" moment was overshadowed by the clue containing a rather sloppy, seventh-inning-like error.
Spot the problem?
Yes, the ace "Jeopardy!" writers slipped up and put the wrong year. Bautista's bat flip actually took place in Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS against the Texas Rangers, not 2016.
It wasn't that big of a problem in the end. Defending champion Grant McSheffrey - a Canadian, of course - correctly responded with "Toronto Blue Jays," added his $400, and the show went on.
We'll also forgive the "Jeopardy!" crew for this mistake. It's an easy one to make, given the Blue Jays did memorably beat the Rangers again in their 2016 ALDS rematch.
