Prices for World Baseball Classic final tickets jump after USA’s berth

The United States is bringing some major interest to Chavez Ravine ahead of Wednesday’s World Baseball Classic final.

Following a 2-1 win over Japan on Tuesday, Team USA clinched its first final berth in the tournament’s 11-year history and will face Puerto Rico at Dodger Stadium. Ticket prices on the resale market have ticked up over the last 12 hours, though plenty of deals still exist.

On TicketIQ, the average resale price for World Baseball Classic final tickets between USA and Puerto Rico is now $144. That marks a 44 percent jump from Tuesday’s $99 average, hours prior to the USA-Japan semifinal game. The cheapest tickets are listed from $48 each in the top deck sections behind home plate, up from their $36 asking price on Tuesday night. Team USA enters the tournament final on the heels of a rain-soaked thriller against Japan, where Adam Jones again delivered a game-deciding play. Aided by an Ian Kinsler double in the prior at-bat, Jones’ groundout in the eighth inning was enough to push Brandon Crawford across the plate and give the Americans the go-ahead run. Luke Gregerson closed with a seven-pitch ninth to earn his third save of the tournament.

Puerto Rico returns to the final after 2013’s bout with the Dominican Republic. They defeated the Netherlands in the first semifinal game on Monday night, needing 11 innings to punch their ticket. Puerto Rico benefited from the tournament’s automatic runners on first and second format in extra innings, with Eddie Rosario’s sac fly serving as the difference.
