Red Sox's David Price: Likely to open season on DL

Red Sox manager John Farrell acknowledged Tuesday that Price (elbow) would likely begin the season on the disabled list, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.

Analysis:

After Price was shut down earlier this month after experiencing forearm and elbow inflammation, he received some good news when it was determined that surgery wouldn't be necessary, but the lefty is still without a clear timetable for a return. Though Price was able to play catch on flat ground from about 60 feet Tuesday, according to Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal, it's uncertain when he'll be able to resume mound work, and with Opening Day about three weeks away, time is working against Price. Assuming Price indeed winds up on the DL, Eduardo Rodriguez, Steven Wright and Drew Pomeranz would all be in line for rotation spots to begin the season.
