Report: Dodgers renew Seager's contract for $575,000

The reigning National League Rookie of the Year and third-place finisher in MVP voting will earn just a shade over half a million dollars next season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly renewed Corey Seager's contract, agreeing to pay their star shortstop a $575,000 salary in 2017, reports FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman.

Under current rules, Seager doesn't have much say in contract negotiations until he's able to make a case for himself in arbitration, beginning in 2019 - provided the team doesn't buy out his arbitration years before then. The 22-year-old will have plenty of arguments to make for a substantial raise, however, as the star infielder has launched 30 home runs and slashed .312/.374/.519 in 182 games with the Dodgers since making his big-league debut in September 2015.

Seager wasn't the only player on Los Angeles' to-do list of contract negotiations Monday, however, as Heyman also reports the team agreed to a $555,000 salary with outfielder Joc Pederson for 2017.
