Reds' Davis wishes Desmond speedy recovery after errant pitch

After an early diagnosis ruled that Ian Desmond suffered a fractured left hand Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, the man that threw the pitch responsible for the injury reached out to the Colorado Rockies infielder.

Rookie Davis, a 23-year-old pitcher who made a combined 23 starts between Double-A and Triple-A last season for the Reds organization, took to Twitter following the contest to lend his support to Desmond, who was grateful for the message:

Davis lost control on a 93-mph fastball in the fourth inning that sailed high and inside, catching Desmond on his left hand as he attempted to turn away. Coincidentally, though, it was an injury to Davis that may have led to his plunking of Desmond.

The right-hander had rolled his ankle two innings prior while running out his own double, and by the time he faced Desmond in the fourth inning he was unable to push off it.

"The way I was throwing, I wanted to stay out and keep going," Davis told MLB.com's Thomas Harding. "After I had to go back up the plate (on a double by Trevor Story), it got worse and worse. The next pitch to Desmond, I just couldn't put much weight on it, so it kind of sailed on me."
