David Price received more encouraging news from doctors Friday, as the Boston Red Sox left-hander was cleared to begin exercises that will allow him to simulate throwing.

"He continues to make improvements," manager John Farrell told reporters, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI. "The phase that he's in now is that we'll start to get into some plyometric exercises which basically puts him into a throwing position but at shortened distances, a weighted ball against a trampoline, that type of thing, starting to get his arm back in motion, in addition to the rehab."

It's been exactly one week since Price met with Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Indianapolis and was told that he would not need surgery or any type of injection.

Price was initially handed a 7-10 day timeline before needing to be evaluated again, and while the news has so far been encouraging, Farrell said there's yet to be a set time when the former Cy Young winner will resume pitching.

"So whether the ball is in his hand Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday - I don't know that has a major impact on this eventual return," Farrell said. "Felt like this is the next progressive step."

It hasn't been determined whether Price will start the season on the disabled list, though he has yet to make an appearance in a spring training game.
