Back-to-back trips to the American League Championship Series has earned Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons some additional job security.

The Blue Jays reportedly agreed to a two-year extension with the skipper that includes an option for 2020, a source told Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.

Gibbons was entering the final year of his contract, but both sides entered the season optimistic that a new deal would be reached.

"John and I have worked well together over the (last) year and we both feel very fortunate to have established trust and respect," general manager Ross Atkins said last week. "When you come into a new situation not having those established lines of communication, then going through a year we feel that not only was a successful one but a very productive one for the two of us (is a positive).

"So looking forward, we're talking about the Blue Jays organization and not just the two of us leading it, but the two of us being a part of leading it together."

Gibbons owns a 339-309 record in his second go-around with the club, winning the AL East title in 2015 that ended a postseason drought that dated back to 1993.
