Red Sox's Rick Porcello: Struck by comebacker, stays in game

Porcello was hit on the right hand by a batted ball, but stayed in Wednesday's game against the Mets, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports. He said afterward that the ball hit his thumb and it's "fine now."

Analysis:

It was going well for Porcello up until Yoenis Cespedes hit a scorcher off his pitching hand during the fourth inning. After a visit by the training staff and a few warmup tosses, Porcello stayed in the game, albeit to allow hard contact to the next two hitters. He finished the day with four runs allowed on five hits and one walk while striking out four in three-plus innings.
