Yankees' Starlin Castro: Gets day off Friday
Castro was given a full day off Friday, as he didn't travel to the team's spring game or go through workouts, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
Analysis:
The day off had been planned, as manager Joe Girardi is trying not to overwork some of his veteran players in the early going of spring training. Castro was one of the more dependable forces in the lineup in his first year in pinstripes, setting a career high with 21 home runs while hitting .290 over the second half of the season. The 26-year-old also provided serviceable defense after making the transition to second base, and he'll be tabbed to man the everyday duties at the keystone once again in 2017.
