Pirates' Jung Ho Kang: Disciplinary decision awaits

The Pirates won't impose any possible penalty on Kang until after the team meets with him, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. "We will withhold judgment on what club discipline, if any, is appropriate until we have had an opportunity to have that discussion," president Frank Coonelly said.

Analysis:

Kang is currently working on acquiring a visa to attend spring training. Major League Baseball is first expected to decide whether to penalize the infielder ahead of the organization. There is also an ongoing sexual assault investigation from 2016 that has yet to be closed. It wouldn't be surprising if Kang faces some sort of regular-season suspension, but he showed last year that he can still contribute despite lessened playing time. He hit 21 homers in only 318 at-bats in 2016.
