Pirates' Tyler Glasnow: Wow factor in full effect Sunday

Glasnow pitched impressively Sunday, striking out six batters in two scoreless innings against Baltimore. He gave up just one hit and didn't walk a batter, Pirates Prospects reports.

Analysis:

Management has intimated that Glasnow would need a tremendous spring to start the season in the big leagues, and he's off to a great start. It's important to note that the big righty was pitching to the Orioles' starting lineup, not a legion of backups. Glasnow's fastball reached 97 mph, his curve buckled knees, and his new-grip changeup stayed low in the zone. Perhaps most impressively, he didn't issue a free pass after posting a 5.2 BB/9 for Triple-A Indy in 2016. There's still a good chance he'll begin the season in the minors, given that he's still working on his new changeup grip, shortened slide step and windup, but he made a great first impression Sunday.
