Mets' Plawecki helped off field after home-plate collision

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

New York Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki had to be helped off the field in the sixth inning Saturday against the Washington Nationals after being taken out at home plate by a slide from Rafael Bautista, according to Newsday's Marc Carig.

As Bautista attempted to slide head first into home on a groundout by teammate Brian Goodwin, the outfielder's left shoulder caught Plawecki's left knee, bending it in an awkward direction and leaving the backstop in considerable pain.

Plawecki, who was initially diagnosed by the Mets with a left knee contusion, was sent to undergo an X-ray, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.
