The St. Louis Cardinals have reportedly dipped into the international market, agreeing to a minor-league deal with 24-year-old Cuban outfield prospect Jose Adolis Garcia, according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com, who cited a source.

The contract will pay Garcia $2.5 million in bonuses and includes an invite to spring training.

Garcia, the younger brother of Atlanta Braves third baseman Adonis Garcia, is regarded as a raw prospect with intriguing offensive upside. In 2014 and 2015, playing in Cuba, Garcia combined to hit .321/.383/.504 with 26 home runs, 124 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases.

The Cardinals have had recent success signing and developing players from the Cuban free-agent market. Aledmys Diaz, signed for $8 million in 2014, was one of baseball's most impressive rookies last year, slashing .300/.369/.510 with 17 home runs and 65 RBIs. He was fifth in NL Rookie of the Year voting.
