Blue Jays' Ezequiel Carrera: Being pushed for job in spring camp

Carrera is being challenged by Dalton Pompey for a spot on the 25-man roster, SB Nation reports.

Analysis:

Throughout the offseason, it seemed clear that Carrera was in line for a platoon role in 2017 (in left field with Melvin Upton). However, it appears that plan may be amended before Opening Day. Carrera hasn't exactly lit up the stat sheet throughout his six-year career (.255/.314/.351), and overall, he's not suited for much more than a reserve role. On the other hand, Pompey is widely regarded as a future star in the organization, and the team may be ready to get him more MLB exposure at Carrera's expense.
