Yankees' Luis Cessa: In the running for rotation spot

Cessa is being considered for one of the final spots in the starting rotation, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Analysis:

Heading into spring training, the top three spots in the Yankees' rotation appear to be sorted out, but behind that there's an open competition for the back-end spots. Cessa worked out of both the bullpen and the rotation in the Bronx last season, working to a 4.35 ERA (5.57 FIP) over 70.1 innings in the majors; however, he had much more success in the minors to the tune of a 3.03 ERA and 8.1 K/9 in 15 appearances (14 starts) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The righty will turn 25 years old in the first month of the season, so if he does lose out on a rotation spot, the Yankees might elect to send Cessa back down to the minors to continue developing him as a starter going forward.
