Red Sox's Roenis Elias: Scheduled to start Saturday

Elias will be the starting pitcher Saturday against the Twins at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers (Fla.), Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.

Analysis:

The Red Sox will be getting look at three of its depth starters right out of the gate in spring training -- Elias follows Brian Johnson on Thursday against Northeastern University and Henry Owens on Friday against the Mets. Those three, along with Kyle Kendrick, will open the season in the starting rotation at Triple-A Pawtucket and are considered potential starters should Boston need a fill-in at some point. None of those four will be first in line for starts, however. The Red Sox will first give available starts to whichever of Eduardo Rodriguez, Steven Wright or Drew Pomeranz lose out in the competition for the final two spots in Boston's rotation.
