Mariners' Chris Heston: Starting second game of spring training

Heston, who arrived in Seattle in a Dec. 7 trade, will draw the start in Sunday's Cactus League tilt versus the Padres, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Analysis:

The 28-year-old righty, who is a considerable long shot to carve out a spot in the Mariners' starting rotation, will have an early chance to showcase his stuff in Seattle's second exhibition game of the spring. Heston was limited to just five innings at the big league level with the Giants in 2016 due to a demotion and subsequent oblique injury. His one season of note in San Francisco came in 2015, when he fired a no-hitter and posted a 12-11 record, 3.95 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 141:64 K:BB over 177.2 innings.
