Montero looks to have cleared air with Maddon in recent photo

If there was any doubt about how Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Montero would be feeling about his manager Joe Maddon as the 2017 campaign gets underway, that question may have been answered on Monday.

Montero tweeted out a photo of him and Maddon sharing a drink together which was accompanied by a positive message about the Cubs and the season ahead.

After the Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years this past November, Montero - who was relegated to third-string catcher behind Willson Contreras and David Ross in the postseason - showed ill feelings towards Maddon for not communicating how little he would be played during the playoffs.

"It was different for me," Montero said to the Waddle and Silvy Show on ESPN 1000 in November. "It was a different emotion because I didn't get a chance to play. I was a little disappointed, to be honest, because I felt like I did a good job in the regular season but was left out a little bit. It made me feel a little like not important or maybe not as good to be in this lineup.

"I think the toughest part for me is they never communicated with me, I'm a veteran guy. They talk about veteran leadership. I have 11 years in the game and two All-Star (appearances). I expected to be treated a little better. I was expected to get communication. Just let me know. Put me in the loop. That was the toughest part for me because I never understood what my role was going to be."

Montero, who is expected to backup Contreras when the regular season gets underway, owns a .259/.342/.416 slash line with 120 home runs and 534 RBIs over the course of his 11-year career.
