Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

Former major-league first baseman Darin Ruf has signed a one-year deal with the Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization, the team announced Friday, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The deal is worth $1.1 million.

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Ruf from the Philadelphia Phillies as part of the Howie Kendrick trade. They granted his release in order for him to pursue other opportunities.

Ruf, 30, played five seasons in the majors with the Phillies from 2012-16. He was a career .240/.314/.433 hitter and his best statistical season came in 2013, when he hit 14 home runs while slashing .247/.348/.458 in 73 games.
