Beltre expected to miss 2-3 weeks with strained calf, WBC in question

The Texas Rangers received some less than ideal news in the early parts of spring training.

Third baseman Adrian Beltre is expected to be out for the next two-to-three weeks as the veteran is dealing with a Grade 1 calf strain, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Beltre's injury could also sideline him for the first round of the World Baseball Classic. He made team Dominican Republic's roster and was expected to be a mainstay for the club as they look to repeat as tournament champions.

The 37-year-old enters his 20th season in the majors. Despite his age, Beltre has remained an elite hitting third baseman for the Rangers as he's coming off a season that saw him combine to .300/.358/.521 with 32 home runs and 104 RBIs.
