Rangers' Adrian Beltre: Expected to miss a few weeks

The Rangers expect Beltre to miss two to three weeks with his Grade 1 calf strain, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis:

This puts him in jeopardy of missing at least part of the World Baseball Classic, though the Dominican Republic could add him to the roster if they advance past the first round without him. The club's first scheduled WBC game is March 9, so Beltre has a shot to play if he heals quickly. On the other hand, in recent springs, he's dealt with multiple calf injuries -- which he said were more difficult to manage than hamstring issues -- so Texas may want him to remain cautious and keep him out of the tournament entirely.
