As Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria continues to make progress in negotiations to sell the franchise to New York businessmen Joshua Kushner and Joseph Meyer, it appears Loria is being considered for a role in the White House.

Chief of staff Reince Priebus is pushing for and reportedly winning a sign-off for Loria to become the ambassador of France, according to Daniel Halper of the New York Post.

The Kushner family has significant ties to the White House. Joshua - a venture capitalist in New York - is the younger brother of President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, while Meyer is Joshua's brother-in-law. Jared is currently serving as the President's senior advisor.

Loria, who is a well-known Republican and Trump supporter, had a handshake agreement to sell the franchise for $1.6 billion on Feb. 9 and at the time, Joshua's father - real estate mogul Charles Kushner - was reported to be involved in the bidding for the franchise.

Charles and Meyer have reportedly balked at the $1.6-billion asking price and Marlins representatives aren't sure if a deal is going to get done, according to a separate report from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

A former owner of a major-league team has emerged as a potential candidate in the sale of the Marlins if a deal between Kushner and Meyer falls apart, Jackson notes, citing sources.
