Rays agree to 1-year deal with Eovaldi
The Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi officially agreed to a one-year deal on Tuesday that contains a club option for 2018.
Financial details were not disclosed, however it's been reported that the Rays will pay Eovaldi $2 million in 2017. The club option is also believed to be valued at $2 million, plus incentives.
It's unlikely that Eovaldi will pitch at all this season as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery. The Rays' plan is to hope he recovers enough to be a part of the club in 2018.
Eovaldi went 9-8 with a 4.76 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 124 2/3 innings with the New York Yankees last season before suffering a torn flexor tendon and partially torn UCL in August. The Yankees designated him for assignment in November.
