Tim Tebow isn't the only former NFL player trying to make it in baseball.

Sanders Commings, a former defensive back for the Kansas City Chiefs and the University of Georgia, is working with retired MLB star Jerry Hairston Jr. in an effort to take up the sport permanently. According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the pair are already conversing with teams about a possible minor-league deal, with a potential showcase in Arizona scheduled for March 8.

"If he had chosen baseball, he would be in the major leagues right now," Hairston told Rosenthal. "He’s a Starlin Marte type of talent. He's that good."

While Tebow's baseball bid was essentially started from scratch, Commings has been noticed among baseball circles before. The 26-year-old was drafted in the 37th round of the 2008 MLB draft out of high school by the Arizona Diamondbacks, but elected to commit to the University of Georgia to continue his education.

Though he would eventually move full-time to football at the university, Commings did try to maintain his baseball connection.

"I would work out with the Georgia baseball team," Commings said, according to Rosenthal. "But every time I had some rhythm going and was starting to feel it, I had to report for spring football."
