The San Diego Padres reportedly agreed to a minor-league deal with veteran catcher Tony Cruz on Tuesday, a source told Chris Cotillo of SBN.

Cruz spent almost all of last season with the Kansas City Royals affiliate in Triple-A Omaha, hitting .264/.347/.387 with seven home runs and 18 doubles in 92 games.

The 30-year-old has six years of major-league catching experience after breaking into the league in 2011 and served as Yadier Molina's primary backup for five seasons in St. Louis, hitting .220/.262/.310 with five home runs and 117 strikeouts in 259 games.

Cruz will head into camp competing with Austin Hedges, Christian Bethancourt, and Luis Torrens for a roster spot.
