Report: Dodgers, Romo agree to terms

Cary Edmondson / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a deal with right-handed reliever Sergio Romo, formerly of the rival San Francisco Giants, a source told Jon Morosi of MLB Network on Friday.

The deal is for one year, according to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez, while the monetary value isn't yet known.

Romo will head down the Southern California coast after spending the first nine seasons of his career in San Francisco. He helped the Giants capture three World Series titles, and closed out the 2012 championship versus the Detroit Tigers.

The deal is not officially done, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports, as a mystery team has emerged with another offer, although Heyman remains firm in the belief Romo will end up a Dodger.

Romo put together a solid statistical season in 2016, finishing with a 2.64 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, but a velocity dip and injuries led to concerns about his ability to remain effective as he enters his age-34 campaign.

For his career, the bearded righty owns a 2.58 ERA and 84 saves.

The Dodgers have been searching for bullpen assistance all offseason, and Romo figures to slot in as a late-innings reliever who can help bridge the gap to star closer Kenley Jansen.
