Report: Rays, Morrison agree to 1-year, $2.5M deal

The Tampa Bay Rays have reportedly landed a first baseman, and instead of splurging on sluggers Chris Carter or Mike Napoli, they've stuck with someone they know.

Tampa agreed to a one-year, $2.5-million deal with Logan Morrison on Friday, according to sources of Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan.

His deal will also include close to $1 million in incentives, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

Morrison appeared in 107 games for the Rays last season after they acquired him in a November 2015 trade from the Seattle Mariners.

He's the latest addition during a busy Rays offseason by president of baseball operations Matt Silverman and the club's front office. Tampa has also acquired Wilson Ramos, Colby Rasmus, Shawn Tolleson, Mallex Smith, and Jose De Leon.

The 29-year-old Morrison will likely start the majority of Tampa's games at first base, with Brad Miller likely shifting to second after the Rays traded Logan Forsythe to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Morrison hit .238/.319/.414 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs, while missing time with a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist. He underwent offseason surgery to repair the injury.

Over the course of his seven-year career, Morrison owns a .245/.325/.416 slash line with 84 home runs and 297 RBIs, splitting time between the Rays, Mariners, and Miami Marlins.
