The Philadelphia Phillies pulled off a minor trade Tuesday, dealing right-hander Severino Gonzalez to the Miami Marlins for a player to be named later or cash, the team announced.

Gonzalez was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Jan. 19 to make room for free-agent acquisition Michael Saunders.

The 24-year-old Gonzalez appeared in 27 games for Philadelphia last season, posting a 5.60 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

He did strike out 34 hitters in 35 1/3 innings of work.

The Panamanian was signed as an amateur free agent in 2011, and owns a career ERA of 6.68 in the big leagues, with a more modest 3.85 ERA in the minors.
