Report: Rangers, Rays 'in the mix' for Carter

The Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays are looking to add some pop to their lineups.

Both clubs are reportedly "in the mix" for free-agent bopper Chris Carter, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Carter was Mr. Go Big or Go Home in the National League last season as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers, leading the way with 41 home runs, as well as striking out a league-best 206 times over 160 games.

In his first three major-league seasons, Carter struggled with the Oakland Athletics, belting just 19 homers in three seasons. The following year, as a member of the Houston Astros, he turned it on, mashing 90 home runs over the next three years.

Having spent his first season in the NL in 2016, Carter is typically better-suited as a designated hitter, so a return to the American League would be more ideal. That being said, playing first base didn't hurt his durability as he missed just two games.

Texas has long been linked to former slugger Mike Napoli, while the Rays are desperate for some more pop in the lineup.
