When Team Israel heads to the World Baseball Classic in March, it may not boast the star power of the U.S. or Dominican squads, but that could potentially change.

Israel is in contact with Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis about playing for the team at the tournament, according to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi, who reports Kipnis has not yet decided whether he'll do so.

The 29-year-old from Northbrook, Ill., identifies as Jewish because of his father's Jewish ancestry.

Kipnis would be a huge add to an Israeli squad that is expected to feature some players with MLB experience, including Danny Valencia, Sam Fuld, and Ike Davis.

The two-time All-Star hit .275/.343/.469 with a career-high 23 home runs and 82 RBIs for the American League champions last season.

Israel is set to play its first contest of the WBC on Mar. 6 against Korea.
