Report: Rangers sign Loney to minor-league deal

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers have signed James Loney to a minor-league contract, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Loney spent last season with the New York Mets, hitting .265/.307/.397 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs in 100 games. The 32-year-old has also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Rays during his 11-year career.

The first baseman will earn $1 million next season should he make the big-league club. If he isn't on the major-league roster by March 29, he can request his release, reports Heyman.
