Angels extend Calhoun with 3-year deal

Joe Nicholson / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels announced Wednesday they've signed outfielder Kole Calhoun to a three-year extension with a club option for 2020.

The contract is worth $26 million, according to the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher, who reports the 2020 option - which would be his first free-agent year - is worth $14 million.

The deal will buy out three of Calhoun's arbitration years, with an option for his first year of free agency as well.

He'll enter spring training tabbed as the team's starting right fielder, joining Mike Trout and one of Cameron Maybin or Ben Revere in the outfield.

Calhoun, 29, hit .271/.348/.438 with 18 home runs and 75 RBIs last season.

Over his five-year big-league career, the former eighth-round draft choice owns a .266/.328/.436 slash line with 69 home runs and 249 RBIs.

He also won a Gold Glove in 2015.
