Rangers sign Dillon Gee to minor-league deal

Josh Hamilton wasn't the only transaction the Texas Rangers made official on Tuesday, as the club announced the signing of right-hander Dillon Gee to a minor-league contract.

Gee will make $2 million, plus incentives, if he makes the Rangers' big-league roster, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Gee is the second pitcher with starting experience the Rangers have inked over the past five days, after agreeing to a one-year, $6-million deal with Tyson Ross on Jan. 13.

Like Ross, the 30-year-old Gee recently underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, and is expected to be ready for spring training.

Gee, born and raised in Texas, should provide the Rangers with more depth in their rotation, and a potential innings-eating arm out of their bullpen. He pitched 125 frames across 33 appearances - 14 starts - for the Kansas City Royals last season.

Prior to his stint in K.C., Gee spent six seasons with the New York Mets, making 114 appearances - 110 starts - in which he posted a 4.03 ERA.

Over the course of his seven seasons in the big leagues, Gee owns a 48-46 record with a 4.13 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

He earned $2 million last season.
