Report: Teams have improved their offers for Quintana

With less than 30 days for pitchers and catchers to report to spring training, it appears trade talk has begun to heat up significantly.

As the Chicago White Sox continue to field offers for left-hander Jose Quintana, teams have stepped up their trade proposals and a deal could get done soon, according to sources of Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago.

The Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates, and New York Yankees have been discussed as the most serious teams pursuing Quintana, but according to Levine, many clubs are said to be involved in trade discussions.

The White Sox have been the offseason's most active sellers, as the team has dealt left-hander Chris Sale and outfielder Adam Eaton separately for huge returns that included top prospects Lucas Giolito from Washington and Yoan Moncada from Boston. The asking price for Quintana is understandably high, as general manager Rick Hahn seems poised to get equal value in any deal involving the 27-year-old starter.

Quintana has been one of the American League's most durable starters the past several seasons, appearing in over 32 starts since 2013. The southpaw is also under club control until 2020 for a reasonable 37.5 million. Throughout his five-year career, Quintana has contributed an average WAR of 4.1 including a 1.21 WHIP and 7.4 strikeouts per nine innings.
