Carter's agent held conversations with Orioles, Rangers

Dave Stewart has been putting in work trying to find a new home for his client, Chris Carter.

The MLB agent was a guest on MLB Network Radio on Sunday where he revealed he's had conversations with Dan Duquette, the Baltimore Orioles vice president of baseball operations, and Jon Daniels, the Texas Rangers general manager, about finding a match for the free-agent slugger in 2017.

"Believe me, I picked up the phone and I've tried to have communication with Duquette and with (Daniels) over in Texas," Stewart said.

Thanks to a surplus of power-hitters available, Carter's market has been unexpectedly quiet after being non-tendered by the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this offseason, despite hitting 41 home runs in 2016, which has motivated his agent to make the first move.

While it's unclear how interested the Orioles or Rangers are in Carter, both clubs could use his heavy bat in their lineup. With Mark Trumbo and his 47 home runs in 2016 still testing the waters in free agency, Baltimore could plug Carter in as their designated hitter to replace the former's offensive output.

Texas, meanwhile, could also consider Carter to fill in a need at first base where he played 153 games last season for Milwaukee.
