Report: Twins monitoring right-handed hitting DHs

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The Minnesota Twins have focused much of their offseason attention on trying to find an appropriate deal for Brian Dozier, but with negotiations surrounding the second baseman at a standstill, it appears they're looking into adding to their ball club in other ways.

Minnesota is one of several clubs monitoring the free-agent market for a right-handed bat to fill the team's need for a designated hitter, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Rosenthal speculates the potential options the Twins may be interested in are Jose Bautista, Mark Trumbo, Mike Napoli, Chris Carter, and Mark Reynolds.

2016 stats

PLAYER PA HR RBI OPS WAR
Jose Bautista 517 22 69 .817 1.4
Mark Trumbo 667 47 108 .850 2.2
Mike Napoli 645 34 101 .800 1.0
Chris Carter 644 41 94 .821 0.9
Mark Reynolds 441 14 53 .806 0.1

Minnesota reportedly met with representatives for Bautista on Wednesday, while the other names mentioned could come at bargain, according to Rosenthal.

As it stands, the Twins are projected to use a combination of Joe Mauer, Byung Ho Park, and Kennys Vargas at DH.

PLAYER PA HR RBI OPS WAR
Joe Mauer 576 11 49 .752 1.0
Byung Ho Park 244 12 24 .684 0.1
Kennys Vargas 177 10 20 .833 0.6

The Twins finished 2016 with the worst record in baseball at 59-103.
