Report: Twins continue to ask Dodgers for more than De Leon in Dozier deal

The Minnesota Twins reportedly need more than just a top pitching prospect in exchange for Brian Dozier.

While it's evident the Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to get the slugging second baseman off the Twins' hands, Minnesota "continues to insist they need more than Jose De Leon" if a trade will come to fruition, according to USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale.

The Twins recently asked clubs to step up with their best offer for Dozier, as time is ticking on when they intend to shut down trade talks for the slugger.

Nevertheless, Nightengale states the Dodgers are the heavy favorites to land him. A day earlier, Minnesota said it intends on resolving trade talks surrounding him in the next week, one way or another.

De Leon, MLB's No. 33 prospect, was dynamite in Triple-A last season. The 6-foot-2 right-hander went 7-1 with a 2.61 ERA over 86 1/3 innings of work.

An earlier report indicated the Twins are also interested in another Dodgers top prospect, first baseman Cody Bellinger, who would fill in for Joe Mauer when his contract expires after the 2018 season.

Dozier set career highs last season with 42 homers, 99 RBIs, and a .268/.340/.546 slash line.

The St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, and Atlanta Braves were also showing interest, though it's unclear if they're still in the running.
