Report: Twins put clock on Dozier trade talks

Rick Osentoski / USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Twins are implying time is running out.

The Twins have been listening to trade offers for second baseman Brian Dozier, but it appears as though the club has informed interested suitors they don't intend on dragging on talks into mid-to-late January, sources told the Star Tribune's LaVelle Neal.

With that in mind, Minnesota wants serious suitors to come forward with their best offer in the coming days. Otherwise, they'll plan for the 2017 season with Dozier at second base.

Based on previous discussions, it appears as though the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are in dire need of a player like Dozier, have been the most interested team.

The St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, and Atlanta Braves have also shown interest, but none of them have what the Dodgers can offer.

If Dozier ends up in Los Angeles, there's no question Jose De Leon, the Dodgers' top pitching prospect, would be included in the deal. Minnesota is also interested in another top prospect, first baseman Cody Bellinger, who would fill in for Joe Mauer when his contract expires after the 2018 season.

Realistically, the Twins have an asking price, and they don't feel the need to move Dozier based on the fact that he's in his prime, and he'll get paid a measly $15 million over the next two seasons.

So if a simple deal was on the table, Dozier would already be at Chavez Ravine. The Twins have indeed pushed for De Leon and another prospect, though the Dodgers are struggling to make it happen.

Last season, Dozier set career-highs with 42 homers, 99 RBIs, and a .268/.340/.546 slash line.

So if teams want Dozier, they're going to have to up the ante on their offers, and fast.
