The 2016 season proved to be one filled with animosity and powerful haymakers.

Despite the vengeful acts, there were still some light-hearted moments. As is always the case, social media was there to capture it all. From bloody fingers to bench-clearing brawls, here are the best social posts of the year:

Cotton candy girl

There's always a first for everything, and this adorable little girl certainly seemed to enjoy her taste of cotton candy at a Seattle Mariners game. The reaction sparked an enormous following on social media and even inspired some Halloween costumes.

Bill Murray channels inner Daffy Duck

Bill Murray shouting, "We didn't come here to drink beer, we came here to win this ballgame" may have been a dubious statement, at best. The iconic actor channelled his Daffy Duck impression while singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in Game 3 of the World Series, leading to a ton of confusion among fans.

Bauer's bloody finger

Trevor Bauer's infamous bloody finger - a result of the Cleveland Indians pitcher attempting to fix a drone - made waves on social media after the starter tried to pitch through the ugly injury in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays. This led to Bauer's stitches opening, and after only 21 pitches he was removed from the game. A barrage of tweets and videos ensued, including the timely Crying Jordan meme courtesy of teammate Jose Ramirez, among others.

Sale cuts up retro jerseys

One of the most unique and peculiar stories to emerge from last season involved starter Chris Sale. The ace was scratched from his start after deciding the Chicago White Sox retro jerseys were so bad, he had to cut them all up prior to a game. Sale told team reps he didn't want to wear them and, when the team refused to cooperate, destroyed the jerseys during batting practice.

Harper's 'Make Baseball Fun Again' campaign

Bryce Harper is one of the most passionate - and talented - baseball players in the league, and it's his personality that garnered a ton of headlines in 2016. The 24-year-old caused a stir when he wore a "Make Baseball Fun Again" cap on Opening Day, backing his stance that baseball is a tired sport in which athletes can't properly express themselves. Making good on that, Harper would go on to use bats with "RIP Harambe" and "MBFA" emblems.

Upton defends her hubby

Kate Upton created a social media storm when she took to Twitter to defend her fiance, Justin Verlander. The series of profanity-laced tweets arrived after it was announced Verlander hadn't won the AL Cy Young award, despite receiving more first-place votes than Rick Porcello. Upton later said she meant no disrespect to Porcello and was instead voicing her opinion about the voting process.

Punch of the century

By far the greatest spectacle in 2016 occurred between the Texas Rangers and Blue Jays when Rougned Odor delivered a mammoth punch to Jose Bautista's face following a hard slide at second base. A brawl ensued and Odor was later handed a reduced seven-game suspension for the shot.

In the end, the Blue Jays and their fans got the last laugh, knocking the rival Rangers out of the postseason for the second year in a row, this time in the form of a three-game sweep.

Ventura, Machado brawl recreated in WWE

Yordano Ventura, the temperamental Kansas City Royals starter, eventually met his match against Manny Machado, whose short temper was triggered at the wrong time in a bench clearing brawl against the Baltimore Orioles. After Machado charged the mound to deliver an epic punch to Ventura's face, someone turned the fight into a WWE special. Adding to the mockery, Ventura got the Crying Jordan meme treatment too.

A-Rod vs. Rose in the broadcast booth

Alex Rodriguez unofficially retired in 2016, but the entertainment value continued when he joined FOX Sports as an analyst alongside Pete Rose, with the the two jabbing each other throughout the postseason.
