Encarnacion's top 5 Blue Jays moments

Nick Turchiaro / USA TODAY Sports

After eight seasons in Toronto, Blue Jays fans are saying goodbye to Edwin Encarnacion.

On Thursday, it was reported the Cleveland Indians and Encarnacion agreed to a three-year deal worth $60 million, with a $20-million option for a fourth year.

With the Toronto chapter of his career in the books, let's take a look at the five most memorable Edwin moments:

July 31, 2009

This day, which probably means nothing to today's Blue Jays fans, was the day Toronto traded veteran third baseman Scott Rolen to the Cincinnati Reds for subpar big leaguer Edwin Encarnacion. While Rolen asked for the trade, Encarnacion was the throw-in player, as they also acquired two young pitchers. Needless to say, Toronto came out on top.

The 2012 season

After eight mediocre seasons in the majors split between the Reds and Blue Jays, this was truly the first time he became "Edwin." In 2012, his dominance over Major League Baseball began, as out of nowhere, he mashed 42 home runs, drove in 110 runs, and even notched some MVP votes. Edwin, as we now know him, had arrived.

Game-tying HR, 2015 ALDS

Texas Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels was slicing and dicing through six innings against the Blue Jays in Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS. But with the Rangers up 2-1 in the sixth inning, Encarnacion delivered a game-tying solo home run - his first postseason blast. To say he put the crowd on its feet would be an understatement.

The home run hat trick

Near the end of the 2015 season, Encarnacion put forth a feat of strength at the Rogers Centre. In a huge 15-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 29, 2015, he blasted three home runs at home. As he rounded the bases, hats began raining down on the field to honor the "home run hat trick."

2016 wild card home run

It was the 11th inning of the 2016 American League wild-card game, and the stage was set. With the score tied 2-2 against the Baltimore Orioles, Encarnacion stepped up to the plate and hit a walk-off three-run home run to send the Blue Jays into the ALDS, while also sending the country into a frenzy.
