Report: Orioles showing interest in Royals' Dyson

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Jarrod Dyson derby appears to have yet another contestant.

The Baltimore Orioles, in search of another outfielder, have reportedly talked to the Kansas City Royals about acquiring the speedy outfielder, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Dyson could provide Baltimore with a spark at the top of its lineup at a potentially cheaper cost. The 32-year-old - who hit .278/.340/.388 with one homer, 14 doubles, and 30 stolen bases for the Royals last year - is entering his final year of arbitration and is projected to make just $2.5 million.

The Orioles have quite a bit of competition for Dyson's services, however, as the Oakland Athletics were reportedly making a push to acquire him on Tuesday night. The St. Louis Cardinals have also apparently checked in on what it might take to bring him in.

Kansas City bolstered its outfield Wednesday by acquiring Jorge Soler from the Chicago Cubs for closer Wade Davis, a move that could help ensure Dyson will be traded.
