The Washington Nationals are reportedly close to acquiring outfielder Adam Eaton from the Chicago White Sox, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Eaton would likely take over in center field for the Nationals, pushing Trea Turner to shortstop.

The Nationals were in continuous talks to acquire Andrew McCutchen from the Pittsburgh Pirates, though landing Eaton would likely take them out of the running for the former NL MVP.

Eaton is coming off back-to-back strong seasons in Chicago, averaging 14 home runs, 28 doubles, nine triples, and a .286/.362/.430 slash line over 310 total games. The 28-year-old is under team control through the 2021 season at a very friendly contract. He's owed $4 million in 2017, $6 million in 2018, $8.4 million in 2019, and has a $9.5-million team option in 2020 and $10.5-million team option for 2021.
