The Toronto Blue Jays have continued their active search for a backup catcher and have expanded interest in multiple players on the open market.

Geovany Soto and Bobby Wilson are two catchers currently on the club's radar, sources said, according to Shi Davidi and Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.

The Blue Jays also met with Chris Iannetta's representatives on Tuesday, shortly after the team were seen talking to outfielder Jose Bautista's agent.

General manager Ross Atkins expressed the need for a reliable backup that could spare Russell Martin and provide the 33-year-old - who is entering year three of a five-year, $82-million deal - with more rest heading into 2017.

Wilson split time last season with the Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Texas Rangers appearing in 75 games, hitting seven home runs and 33 RBIs.

Soto, meanwhile, has been limited to only 124 games since 2014 due to injury, but has been a solid backup when healthy with a career line of .246/.331/.435, offering more offense than Wilson and Iannetta.
