Report: Nationals interested in Eaton, Colome

The Washington Nationals are beginning to look elsewhere as trade talks with the Pittsburgh Pirates in regards to Andrew McCutchen appear to have hit a bit of an impasse.

One alternative to McCutchen that has reportedly caught the Nationals attention is Chicago White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, citing sources.

Eaton is likely to be traded this winter as the White Sox have signaled they're officially in rebuild mode after trading ace Chris Sale to Boston on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Eaton is a strong defender, and is coming off a year in which he hit .284/.362/.428 with 14 home runs, 29 doubles, nine triples and 14 stolen bases in a career-high 157 games.

Adding a player like Eaton to their center field would allow the Nationals to move Trea Turner back to his natural position at shortstop.

In addition to Eaton, general manager Mike Rizzo has reportedly also discussed trading for Tampa Bay Rays closer Alex Colome, sources told Morosi.

The 27-year-old right-hander excelled in is first full season as a reliever. He posted a 1.91 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings, while converting 37 saves.
