Report: Rangers have done 'significant homework' on Ross

Chris Humphreys / USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers are making sure Tyson Ross is the man for them.

Texas has reportedly done "significant homework" on the right-hander, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

Ross was a staple in the San Diego Padres' rotation, posting a 3.16 ERA over the past four seasons, though shoulder issues limited him to just one start in 2016 before the club non-tendered him.

Ross underwent surgery in October for thoracic outlet syndrome, which makes him a question mark for the 2017 season - hence the homework Texas is doing.

If Ross is healthy, he could potentially join a loaded Rangers rotation that includes Cole Hamels, Yu Darvish, and Andrew Cashner.
