Rangers' Carlos Gomez: Signs one-year deal with Rangers on Tuesday

Gomez agreed to a one-year, $11.5 million deal with the Rangers on Tuesday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.

Analysis:

The Astros designated Gomez for assignment in August and he eventually landed with the Rangers, where he showed significant strides at the plate down the stretch. After hitting .210/.272/.322 in 85 games with Houston, Gomez put together a .284/.362/.543 line in 33 games with the Rangers, which also included eight homers, 24 RBI, and five steals. Much as the Rangers seemingly helped to get Ian Desmond back on track after a disappointing 2015 campaign, things started to click for Gomez after he arrived in Arlington. Gomez will open the season as the Rangers' regular center fielder in hopes that a full bounceback season in 2017 will lead to a bigger payday next winter.
