Report: Red Sox in the mix for Moreland

Cary Edmondson / USA TODAY Sports

In the later stages of Mitch Moreland's decision on where to sign, another suitor has emerged.

The Boston Red Sox are said to be "in" on the former Texas Rangers slugger, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Moreland is expected to make a decision soon, with the Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays also in the hunt. His former team, the Rangers, are out on him.

Last season, Moreland slashed .233/.298/.422 with 22 home runs in 147 games while collecting his first career Gold Glove.

Should the Red Sox indeed be in on Moreland, the team would likely move Hanley Ramirez to the designated hitter slot, given Moreland's plus defense.
