Report: Cubs, Dodgers showing interest in Holland

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

Greg Holland appears to have more suitors as he embarks on his comeback from Tommy John surgery.

Both the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly interested in the two-time All-Star closer, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The Cubs and Dodgers would both be ideal landing spots for Holland if he's interested in closing again after his prolonged absence. As it stands, both teams are faced with the prospect of losing their high-priced closers, in Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen, to free agency; Holland could provide a cheaper short-term option for either side at a low cost.

If he's healthy, picking up Holland to bolster their bullpen could be a shrewd move for either of last year's NLCS participants. Though his numbers spiked in 2015 - a 3.83 ERA and 1.46 WHIP preceding his surgery in September 2015 - the 31-year-old was masterful in both 2013 and '14 for the Royals, posting ERAs below 2.00 in both years and winning AL Reliever of the Year honors in 2014.

In addition to the Cubs and Dodgers, Heyman reported that the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox - who had been connected with Holland last month - also have interest.
