Report: Rockies interested in Encarnacion, Abreu

With Edwin Encarnacion's market in a state of flux, one National League team is starting to make rounds on the slugger, and could pursue another big bat through trade.

The Colorado Rockies are contemplating the price tag for free agents Mark Trumbo and Encarnacion, and have held preliminary trade discussions with the Chicago White Sox over Jose Abreu, sources said, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com.

"In terms of adding talent right now, we're wide open, we're open to all avenues," general manager Jeff Bridich said, when asked about Trumbo.

The Rockies have been linked to Trumbo in recent days, as the slugger is reportedly seeking a four-year contract worth approximately $80 million. Interestingly enough, the Toronto Blue Jays made a similar offer to Encarnacion, which he rejected earlier in the offseason. If the Rockies were to sign either free agent, it would cost the team the 11th overall draft pick, as both players are tied to draft-pick compensation.

Abreu is under contract with the White Sox, and both teams began discussing a trade that would have the Rockies send multiple prospects, though talks are still in the early stage. The Rockies were one of the teams heavily interested in signing Abreu as an international free agent in 2013, before the first baseman joined the White Sox.

The Rockies, Bridich confirmed, have also had talks with Chris Carter, Mike Napoli, Mitch Moreland, and Mark Reynolds - all options to play and start at first base.
